philharmonic orchestra tribute to Diaghilev
To celebrate the Centenary of the Ballets Russes, during its 2009/2010 season the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra is presenting the major works from the repertoire of Serge de Diaghilev's company. Works such as “Shéhérazade” by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, “Petroushka”, “Le Sacre du Printemps” and “L’Oiseau de Feu” by Igor Stravinsky, or even “Daphnis et Chloé” by Maurice Ravel to name just a few. The “Young Audience” is not forgotten, with concerts specially designed around the symbolic works of the Ballets Russes.
Joining forces with the Principality's other cultural institutions; the Orchestra will accompany the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, perform as part of the Spring Arts Festival and participate in the Monaco Dance Forum. Finally, to mark this season, the Orchestra is also producing its first recordings with its new Musical Director, Yakov Kreizberg: Shéhérazade, Pulcinella, L’oiseau de Feu, Petroushka...
spring arts festival
A festival proposing all kinds of music
The Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival is the Monaco festival which gives audiences the opportunity to listen to all kinds of music in the company of the greatest composers, featuring internationally famous performers. This event also makes it possible to rediscover rarely performed composers and hear living composers who receive commissions every year. Every year, anxious to reinvent itself in unknown or prestigious locations with a passion for music and the arts, the Spring Arts Festival is celebrating the centenary of the Ballets Russes in Monaco as an additional opportunity to take part in concerts with innovative formats.
As part of the Centenary of the Ballets Russes, the Spring Arts Festival is presenting: Two concerts focusing on the most significant Russian musical works, the first with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, the second a piano recital. In partnership with the Monaco Dance Forum, four short creations presented by the Rosella Hightower Ecole Supérieure de Danse in Cannes, linking the works of four choreographers, four visual artists and four composers. A creation in co-production with the Ballets de Monte-Carlo.
