Dance
5th Monaco Dance Forum
During the celebration of the centenary of the Ballets Russes, the Monaco Dance Forum is taking a different course. Abandoning its biennial frequency, this festival is now continuously established in the Monegasque cultural landscape, offering dance a new international centre. For more than a year, the Monaco Dance Forum will offer a program that will bring together dance, music, the visual arts, literature and cinema, thus paying tribute to the fusion of arts brought about by Serge de Diaghilev. Furthermore, as its name indicates, the Monaco Dance Forum is much more than a festival. Prize giving, the welcoming of junior companies, auditions, awarding of scholarships to young talents, conferences, workshops, Master classes, training courses, installations, meetings with the audience and screening cycles will be the ingredients of this fifth Monaco Dance Forum.
The Monaco Dance Forum is proposing to celebrate the Centenary of the Ballets Russes in three phases. ACT 1 : 9th December 2009 to 3rd January 2010 “The Heritage of the Ballets Russes: a repertoire still alive today” ACT 2 : 27th March to 16th April 2010 “The Spirit of the Ballets Russes: a group of artists serving dance” ACT 3 : 2nd to 25th July 2010 “Perpetuating the Ballets Russes: Monaco, a welcoming place for new creations”
The ballets de monte-carlo
100 years of the Ballets Russes
The repertoire bequeathed by Serge de Diaghilev and his company is an unlimited field of experiences which even today continues to inspire choreographers and dancers the world over. Dedicating three highlights of its season to the centenary of the Ballets Russes, the forty five dancers of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo will be major contributors to this event. “Le Sacre du Printemps”, “Le Fils Prodigue”, “Shéhérazade”, “Le Spectre de la Rose”, “Les Noces”, “Daphnis et Chloé”, and many other masterpieces that have marked the history of dance will be presented to the public in their original versions or a modern interpretation. In this way, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo is reinforcing the living aspect of this centenary: a celebration which pays tribute to the past while resolutely looking to the future.
