arts fusion of the

with the monaco dance forum

In the wake of the Ballets Russes, with an abounding and composed creativity, the visual arts have proved to be a vital marker in the history of modern art. Aware of this legacy, the Monaco Dance Forum decided to present a series of installations, exhibitions and performances throughout the year aimed at celebrating this fusion of the arts started by Serge de Diaghilev. Taking over the Grimaldi Forum, which will serve as the setting for the festival or offering “outside” art, the Monaco Dance Forum will call on international creators to show works that are half way between dance and visual arts. Thus enhancing the spirit of openness of this festival where dance is a guiding thread that is followed so we can loose ourselves among the web that it weaves with other disciplines.

strolling events

in partnership with the Monaco Dance Forum

The Pavillon Bosio, the city of Monaco’s École Supérieure d’Arts Plastiques (Visual Arts College), presents its strolling events on the theme of the Ballets, designed by its students to guide the visitor to the Grimaldi Forum in commemoration of the Centenary of the Ballets Russes. These strolling events are presented through key subjects and with the characteristics of modern scenography.

The Nijinsky trailer. An unusual subject representing the mentality of Nijinsky’s writings. The Forest. A wall made up of painted tiles featuring a Nordic forest in black and white representing the feeling of isolation resulting from Valsalv Nijinsky’s notebooks. The Mobile Stage. A place for performance and transformation of the notion of stage for dance. The Memory Store. An imitation stall where memories are recalled like commercial goods.

The VIP Photo Studio. A photography area for personalities who would like to keep a fun memory of their trip to the Monaco Dance Forum (in the costume of a Ballets Russes dancer). The Russian Church. A ghostly veil and a kindly look at the Monaco Dance Forum. The Russian Padding. Performance of ironic productions created in the photo studio by reinterpreting the “views” of the Ballets Russes. The Backorama. On level -2 of the Grimaldi Forum, a colourful fresco made up of painted tiles featuring drawings of the Ballet Russes stage sets.
